I got some pretty solid stuff from Retweak Records this weekend, a label out of Leeds that I had no prior knowledge of. They dished out some promo for “Final Dream”, a smooth prog-house track by Mike Richardson and Mata that would probably turn the heads of the late Deep Dish (RIP). To help spread the love, I decided to go with the Howard Sessions mix of the single, it’s just so smooth and is def. one of those “get some work done” songs. I’d also like to point out it would mix beautifully with “Nouveau Yorican – Boriqua (Sandro Silva Remix).”

This is the most interesting song I’ve heard so far this year, shit, maybe last year too. Touching base on everything from Dance Hall to B-More to 8-bit, all intertwined with a nice little orchestra melody from the original, Dubbel Dutch spans over many a genre with his remix of Edu K’s “Jumpin n Pumpin.” I absolutely love that “heyyy” sample too, so choice. Well, I just got home from work and I was compelled to post this right away. The Juan Maclean remixing Marina & The Diamonds‘ “Hollywood”. Damn. You kind of know what you’re getting into when you see “The Juan Maclean” on the track, but I’d also recommend giving the video a look as it’s a nice acoustic version of the song.

For all the people who love indie rock, these dudes by the name of Vampire Weekend (you may have heard of them) are releasing their second LP called Contra on January 12th (US). Being a fan of Vampire’s production, we (LOL Boys) decided to take the track “Giving Up The Gun” and make a bootleg jam out of it.

In doing so, the end result was a bit less of the Paul Simon sounding vocals and an extra slice of drums on the side. If you’re a DJ then this track should please most of your indie loving fans, if you’re not a DJ you’ll still enjoy the tropical vacation that this remix will take you on.

I never really understood why some blogs and music sites put their “best of” lists out before the year was actually over, that might help explain why our Best of 2009 post is coming a bit after the new year. That and waiting on Kid Color to get his list finished (jokin’). But seriously, this past year doesn’t really need any kind of special recap, it was just a good year for music. From remixes to albums, there was much to celebrate in our community. I guess the only thing I’m still waiting on are the new LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost! and Cut Copy albums, not to mention a Justice follow-up, but I think those are all set to be released within the year.

Now that 2009 is officially over and done, we can get excited about all the new music producers stepping up to the plate to make 2010 start off with a bang. Much like Bok Bok and L-vis 1990 in 2009, you couldn’t escape hearing the buzz about these two. Aside from producing and DJing, the two also started a pretty rowdy party called Night Slugs, which has now evolved into a label.

The first release on the Nightslugs record label is from Mosca. If you’re a geek like Beats or I, than you’ve probably heard Mosca through Kingdom, Bok Bok, or Dubbel Dutch on one of their ustream sets. If you’re unfamiliar with Mosca, then this EP will be a great introduction, as he’s everything you’d hope for in a producer. Blending quirky deep techno sounds with world house vibes and tons of bass. This is “grown ‘n sexy” club music far removed from the annoying screechy sounds of blog house, but with the same inventive energy. Not only are the original tracks fantastic but the Nightslugs sprung for some heavy duty remixers like Roska, Greena and Julio Bashmore.

The EP will be released to every digital music retailer (iTunes, Juno, Beatport, Boomkat, etc.) as well as have a very limited number of vinyl copies pressed. Keep an eye out for Night Slugs releases through-out the year because they plan on releasing EPs for Kingdom, Greena, Jam City, Girl Unit and Egyptrixx.

I’ve actually been looking for a reason to post the original of this tune, but Axwell and Dirty South made it a bit for relevant to this here blog. Their remix came out on The Temper Trap’s Sweet Disposition single and if you take a look at their other releases, you’ll notice that they have a lot of familiar dance names in their catalog. If it were time to name the top new artists of 2009, one name mentioned would have to be Renaissance Man. Whether it be remixes or original tracks, the duo have made some great tunes this year. Their newest remix is on the DJ Chernobyl Empina A Pipa EP which will be out mid January, the release will feature much of the Exploited Records roster and will most likely be a “must have.” For now, check out the Miami bass/ Baile funk infused remix by Renaissance Man.
