Palette One

Découverte, Musique Par: hellothisiskyle No Comments »

It’s almost been two years since I released Carded & DisCarded. Although that is a very long time period, I do feel that it’s safe to say both my style of DJing and taste in music have developed since then. I don’t mean to discredit Carded & DisCarded at all, by any means, but over this time I have had the chance to explore new concepts and styles of mixing that I discovered to be more beneficial when incorporated into my DJ sets. With these changes occurring over he past two years, I’ve come up with an idea that has finally taken form – I’m happy to announce my new bimonthly mix series; Palette.

The concept behind the series is that for the next 6 months, I will hand pick and craft a mix for your listening pleasure. I decided to kick off the Palette series with a program of songs that all mean a lot to me. Not to mention, I also decided to throw in a few of my favorite transitions that I’ve enjoyed playing live at most of my shows over the past couple of months. I may not be able to promise that you’ll enjoy every mix in the series, but I can promise that I’ll work hard to make it interesting for you all.

I really hope you all enjoy this months mix and look forward to Palette Two in early April!

Final Dream

Découverte, Musique Par: Beats™ No Comments »

I got some pretty solid stuff from Retweak Records this weekend, a label out of Leeds that I had no prior knowledge of. They dished out some promo for “Final Dream”, a smooth prog-house track by Mike Richardson and Mata that would probably turn the heads of the late Deep Dish (RIP). To help spread the love, I decided to go with the Howard Sessions mix of the single, it’s just so smooth and is def. one of those “get some work done” songs. I’d also like to point out it would mix beautifully with “Nouveau Yorican – Boriqua (Sandro Silva Remix).”

Pick up the rest of the release with a couple variations by Lorenzo Kruiz and the 320 of Howard Sessions’ mix at Juno Downloads.

Tell My Love

Découverte, Musique Par: Beats™ No Comments »

If you’re in New York this weekend then you’re in for a treat. VDRK and OCD Automatic, alongside Preston Craig and Free Magic, are throwing a little release party at Santos for their new track “Tell My Love”. I can safely say that this is one of my favorite tracks from the past couple months and I would have put it in my top 10 tracks of 2009 but, sadly, it wasn’t officially released yet.

I know it might be a little early to dub this a “top 10 prospect” for this year, but who knows. I do. And it is. You’ll love it. See you in New York (not really). Cheers!

Giving Up The Gun

Découverte, Musique Par: markuslol No Comments »

For all the people who love indie rock, these dudes by the name of Vampire Weekend (you may have heard of them) are releasing their second LP called Contra on January 12th (US). Being a fan of Vampire’s production, we (LOL Boys) decided to take the track “Giving Up The Gun” and make a bootleg jam out of it.

In doing so, the end result was a bit less of the Paul Simon sounding vocals and an extra slice of drums on the side. If you’re a DJ then this track should please most of your indie loving fans, if you’re not a DJ you’ll still enjoy the tropical vacation that this remix will take you on.

The Best of 2009

Découverte, Musique Par: Beats™ 1 Comment »

(I approve of the lens flare)

I never really understood why some blogs and music sites put their “best of” lists out before the year was actually over, that might help explain why our Best of 2009 post is coming a bit after the new year. That and waiting on Kid Color to get his list finished (jokin’). But seriously, this past year doesn’t really need any kind of special recap, it was just a good year for music. From remixes to albums, there was much to celebrate in our community. I guess the only thing I’m still waiting on are the new LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost! and Cut Copy albums, not to mention a Justice follow-up, but I think those are all set to be released within the year.

Anyway, much like last year, all linked albums take you to iTunes, mixes to wherever specified and select tracks to the HB server (available for a limited time.) And if you wouldn’t mind dropping us a line in the comments below, take a minute to let us know how our lists stacked up to yours and/ or how much we suck. Thanks and have a great 2010!

HAPPY NEW DECADE!

I’m a huge fan of Missy Elliott’s “Lose Control” and I thought it would be a perfect track to bring in the new decade. I “linked up” with Garrett of Le Principle and he put together a simple, yet amazing intro to the already stellar Top 40 jam. If you were in Madison at Cardinal Bar for NYE then you know how well this went over at the drop of the ball.

Lastly, to those of you who are unfamiliar with “BEEYERRRRNNNNNNN“, it’s an airhorn. If you follow Sparkletone on Twitter then you already know that he’s the founder of the instantly legendary hashtag.

Pelagia Nr. 2

Découverte, Musique Par: Beats™ No Comments »

I’ve been trying to figure out this song for two years. Claude VonStroke dropped it in his November Essential Mix and since then I’ve been trying to ID Robag Wuhme’s “Pelagia Nr.2″, the track that was beautifully laced under “DJ Koze Vs. Sid Lerock – Naked (DJ Koze Remix).” I’d also like to point out that the tracklist was wrong and stated “Robag Wruhme – Pelagia.” Just saying.

Let’s just get back to good tunes. Old or new.

Breakbot – Penelope Pitstop (old + inspired by OCD Automatic)
Chromeo – Night by Night (Siriusmo Remix) (I saw Chromeo this weekend. Incredibly fun show)
Delphic – This Momentary (Radioproof Remix) (sounds like a tight video game, kind of)
Dmitry Fyodorov – Coconut Office (dark, minimal, tech-house. Beautiful)
Feist – Sea Lion (Chromeo Remix) (old + inspired by Kid Color)
Heritage Orchestra + DJ Yoda – Concerto for Turntables (Radioproof X (II) Remix) (buy this now)
LCD Soundsystem – Time To Get Away (Gucci Soundsystem Remix) (old + inspired by Kid Color)
Plej – You (I found this while cruising the Chill Out section on Beatport)
Solid Gold – Matter Of Time (I’ve been loving Solid Gold since here. Not much has changed)
Wolf Gang – The King And All Of His Men (adding Wolf Gang to the list of bands I heart)

2Moussa

Découverte, Musique Par: Beats™ No Comments »

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve heard anything from Moussa Clarke, almost a full year actually. The last time I posted about him was for his single “Regret” and this time around it’s almost the same thing. For this round of remixes Moussa called upon Daniel Lindeberg (Dumb Dan), 2Special, 6884 and Roman Rai. My favorite of which being the 2Special remix.

Moussa was also kind enough to send over a new, unreleased track by Slacker called “A New Day’s Dawn”, a pretty chill track that I’m proud to say is a Hot Biscuits exclusive.

Black Holes @ CMJ

Découverte, Musique Par: Beats™ No Comments »

Black Holes aka The Mike Perry aka Al Pachino’s Dicks aka… Mike Perry is back with a new mix to promote his 2009 CMJ performances at the VICE Magazine party on Tuesday (Oct. 20) and Grasslands Gallery on Wednesday (Oct. 21). Unlike the last Black Holes mix, which seemed to leverage both hip-hop AND tech-house, Fade To Black seems to focus a bit for on the techy/ minimal house with a dabble of dubstep at the end. I think this is the best mix that Mr. Perry has ever put out and is an accurate representation of what to expect at his CMJ performances.

You can also catch Kid Color this Thursday at Cameo Gallery at 12:30AM.

Tracklist:
1. After Eight – Stimming
2. Dis – Dj. T
3. Full Moon – The Martin Brothers
4. Float My Boat – Lazy Jay
5. Concumbia – Worthy, Yankee Zulu
6. Polkadots – Afrojack
