Palette Two

Découverte, Musique Par: Beats™ No Comments »

Has it really been two months already since the release of Palette One? Man, time flies! Well, with springtime in full effect and summer just on the horizon, there is no better time than now to give you all the second installment of the Palette mix series.

For the past year, I’ve found myself including more and more tracks into my DJ sets that all carry a specific organic, live sound. I guess, in a way, I just find myself able to enjoy dance music more when I can imagine it being performed by a band. So I’ve decided to make this concept the main focus for Palette Two; I have strung together 13 tracks that I found that all share a similar organic, fun vibe. I also made sure to program some, in my opinion, classic tracks alongside some transitions I’ve been playing live for the past couple months.

You will also see is that I’ve included two new Kid Color remixes! For about the past two years, I’ve been fine tuning my production skills with the goal of eventually releasing remixes & originals – and the day has come! I’m very happy to present you all with these two new remixes of mine with the promise that there will be more on the way very soon!

I really hope you all enjoy both Palette Two along with my new remixes! Oh, and early warning, Palette Three is coming out in June!

Mini Mix Series v2

Découverte, Musique Par: Beats™ No Comments »

Back with the second installment of our Mini Mix Series, we’ve called upon Hot Biscuits regular; Dubbel Dutch. I swear, sometimes it feels like we’re posting this guys stuff every other week, and for good reason too, it’s because he’s really really really good at what he does. The Palms Out Sounds artist sets fire (in a good way) to every production he touches, and this mix is no exception. In fact, Dutch has a 3-track release set to come out this May that’s been getting heavy praise by a handful of names that you’re very familiar with, you’d be cheating yourself to not learn about it. Do so here.

That’s all I got, plug in your headphones and lock in while Dub and Markus murder your shit.

Heaps & Heaps

It seems that me getting way behind on emails is becoming a regular thing, and it’s resulting in me just dumping tracks like this. I know everyone wants a “feature”, but on the bright side these are what I consider to be the best tracks that I’ve received over the past week and a half. The best of hundreds of emails. Enjoy the shit out of them.

DCUP – To Be In Love (Universe Remix)
Freedom – Throb
Friendly Foliage – Masonic Meadows
Mathemagic – Breaststroke

Owls, Basically

Découverte, Musique Par: Beats™ No Comments »

“The Flying Cat” basically translates to “Owl”, because owls, as I’ve said before (via Twitter), are basically the cats of the sky. Think about it, I’m right.

Anyway, The Flying Cat EP is more than just a great segue for me to drop knowledge bombs, it’s also the name of the forthcoming album by the LA-electro-duo known as Cold Blank. Before I name names, let me just say that this is the kind of sound that I’ve been missing in my everyday serving of dance music, shits gotten too soft lately… Or maybe I’ve gotten too soft lately. I don’t know, but with remixes by Alex Mind, Jackinori & The Dutch Rudder, The Bulgarian and Thug Life; this thing is pretty damn nutty.

In my opinion, Alex Mind completely destroyed this thing, but to be fair, each remixer brought something different and intriguing to the table. See for yourself, dig into the previews and be sure to hit your local Beatport come April 26th.

Division & Ashland

Découverte, Musique Par: Beats™ No Comments »

I got another exclusive from the disco/ funk/ house duo known as Le Principle. This one is, apparently, inspired by the Division & Ashland intersection here in Chicago, as it’s aptly named “Division & Ashland.” Whether it’s referring to said cross-streets or not, this is definitely the funkiest thing I’ve heard from these guys and it’s a direction I hope they continue to travel.

If you’re unfamiliar with Le Principle, not to worry, as they’ve got some nice things lined up with Solid Bump Records (San Fran disco house outfit) that should dazzle you as the year goes on.

Fina + B&Gs + Rubik + XI

Découverte, Musique Par: Beats™ No Comments »

Epic post is epic.

I got a couple of pretty interesting tunes from Fina, a Breakbeat/ Trip-Hop producer from Columbus, Ohio. Within these tunes there’s definitely a breaks influence, that goes without question, but there’s also an essence of that whole Squarepusher/ Aphex Twin vibe… And a dash of Orbital. Like some old Warp Records shit. If I were you I would definitely pay attention to this kid.

Fina – Down is Up
Fina – Found
Fina – Intelligence

Oddly enough, B&Gs are roughly in the same vein as Fina and since they’ve both been sitting on my desktop for a solid two weeks, I’m making them both part of this “epic post of dnb/ dub/ techno.” B&Gs have a slightly darker sound to their stuff, but still very perplexing. They describe their sound as “Dubai-inspired capitalist bass” and even though I’m not sure if I really agree with that, nor completely understand what it means, I will say this: they’re solid.

B&Gs – Bearz nnniii!
B&Gs – D_Dd
B&Gs – Ethereprise

Even MORE odd was that Rubik ALSO falls in line with Fina, maybe even more-so with B&Gs. I touched base on this London-based producer when he sent over his absolutely beautiful “Untitled” track, which is why his name might ring a bell more than these other hooligans. Anyway, these three tracks are off of his Remains album, a compilation of older stuff that didn’t really fit any place else. I enjoy all these, but “It’s Not Really You” pretty much nails home the intricate DnB vibe that I love.

Rubik – Cub
Rubik – Honeytree
Rubik – It’s Not Really You

Last but not least, I’ve got some stuff from XI, a Toronto-based Dub producer who rolls with representation from Immerse Records out of Bristol, England. Again, leaning more towards the Drum and Bass feel of this post, but with an added dose of Dub. “000″ is really riding the DnB tip while “Slippin” revolves more around a series of ambient synths (it reminds me a bit of Joris Voorns remix of “Beach Kisses.”) Enjoy these freebies and pick up the rest of his catalog over at the Chemical Records storefront.

XI – Slippin
XI – 000

Mini Mix Series v1

Découverte, Musique Par: Beats™ No Comments »

Well, this is pretty straight forward: Markus and I had the idea of putting out mini mixes every month that would feature a special guest. Said special guest would play whatever they wanted, we would play whatever we wanted and all would be swell in the land of Hot Biscuits. That’s the whole story and this is the final product; Hot Biscuits Mini Mix Series!

For this first month, we’ve decided to call upon a former contributor and current CEO member of Squeegie Sounds; Brookah. If you frequent his blog then you already know that he’s pretty much “all about” the hard sound. However, his installment of this month’s mini mix series might surprise you. All I’ll say is that he’s a bastard for using “Calypso.”

Lastly, I just wanted to point out that this is meant to be a fun thing, so if you hear a beat mismatch or levels that are off (WHICH YOU WON’T), I’d recommend to simply let it go. If you absolutely hate what you’re hearing then drop us a comment and let us know who you’d like to hear instead. In the coming months we’ve got some wonderful talent lined up and that’s all I’m going to say about that.

Enjoy.

To everyone who got nutty last night, this one’s for you. By way of London and Domestic Records, enjoy this beautifully crafted hang-over lullaby by Rubik. My only criticism is that it’s only 3 minutes long, as I could have enjoyed this for at least 20 more minutes.

Palette One

Découverte, Musique Par: hellothisiskyle No Comments »

It’s almost been two years since I released Carded & DisCarded. Although that is a very long time period, I do feel that it’s safe to say both my style of DJing and taste in music have developed since then. I don’t mean to discredit Carded & DisCarded at all, by any means, but over this time I have had the chance to explore new concepts and styles of mixing that I discovered to be more beneficial when incorporated into my DJ sets. With these changes occurring over he past two years, I’ve come up with an idea that has finally taken form – I’m happy to announce my new bimonthly mix series; Palette.

The concept behind the series is that for the next 6 months, I will hand pick and craft a mix for your listening pleasure. I decided to kick off the Palette series with a program of songs that all mean a lot to me. Not to mention, I also decided to throw in a few of my favorite transitions that I’ve enjoyed playing live at most of my shows over the past couple of months. I may not be able to promise that you’ll enjoy every mix in the series, but I can promise that I’ll work hard to make it interesting for you all.

I really hope you all enjoy this months mix and look forward to Palette Two in early April!

Final Dream

Découverte, Musique Par: Beats™ No Comments »

I got some pretty solid stuff from Retweak Records this weekend, a label out of Leeds that I had no prior knowledge of. They dished out some promo for “Final Dream”, a smooth prog-house track by Mike Richardson and Mata that would probably turn the heads of the late Deep Dish (RIP). To help spread the love, I decided to go with the Howard Sessions mix of the single, it’s just so smooth and is def. one of those “get some work done” songs. I’d also like to point out it would mix beautifully with “Nouveau Yorican – Boriqua (Sandro Silva Remix).”

Pick up the rest of the release with a couple variations by Lorenzo Kruiz and the 320 of Howard Sessions’ mix at Juno Downloads.
