This No Static at All EP, released in conjunction with ATL web DJ Rob Wonder, is a hint that someone at Scion has impeccable taste in music. The release is packed with forward-thinking bass, heavy club tunes and represents a lot of what Rob Wonder plays on his radio show.
As Wonder says, “This collection of sounds was put together to move minds, hearts and feet.” Coinciding with this musical release, there is also a booklet (available both in print and digitally) about No Static At All that features tweaked creature illustrations by Atlanta art legend R. Land.

I don’t have to tell you how much this new EP from Marcus Price & Carli rules the world. The whole thing has been a favorite of mine for a while and Beats even went so far as to prematurely put “Mat, Bira, Kvinnor, Weed (Kingdom Remix)” is his Top 10 of 2009 list.
In any case, the release is finally available for your listening pleasure with devastatingly amazing remixes from Kingdom, Dubbel Dutch, Norrit, Girl Unit, and Crazy Pays. I bought the 12″ but if you want digital it’s available on Beatport, iTunes, and Juno, all compliments of Palms Out Sounds!
Here’s an exciting house number that was produced completely over the internet. T. Williams dropped a drum loop during one of his weekly U-Stream sets and asked the viewers to give feedback on how the track should turn out. It was a 2 and a half hour project that resulted in an amalgam of UK Bass music, deep house and Detroit techno.
T. William’s has a release on Deep Teknologi that’s scheduled to drop later this month, said release’s tracks have already been featured in sets by Cooly G, Bok Bok, L-vis 1990 and are exactly the type of thing I get excited about these days.
Brenmar is a modern day musical version of Bo Jackson. He plays drums in These Are Powers, who were named as the favored band by multiple people at this year’s SXSW. Besides that, Brenmar is also a producer and a DJ. His production is heavily percussive, full of toms and heavy kicks. His band is also heavily percussive with an intense live set. Check out his band if they swing by your town and keep checking for his productions and DJ sets, as he’s rollin’ with the Bok Bok, Dubbel Dutch and Nguzunguzu, just to name a few.
My ma always told me that you can be judged by the company you keep, and if that’s true then Ikonika is in great standing. She just finished a full-length record on the UK label, Hyperdub, who’s put out vinyl for the likes of Burial, Darkstar, Kode9, Cooly G, Zomby and many more. Not only is she on a great label, but she’s constantly chilling with Kingdom, Girl Unit, Bok Bok, and Manara, which makes her doubly awesome. Her 14 track, debut record, Contact. Want. Love. Have., is set to drop on April 6th, grab it or be stuck in the past.
Nightshifters are the undisputed kings of raved out, bass heavy tunes. Every release they’ve put out so far has arguably become an instant classic, so it’s no surprise that label co-owner DJ Donna Summer would release one of the craziest records of the bunch. Raw has nicely syncopated drums sandwiched between classic house chords and heavy bass. The release consists of 9 total tracks, 5 of which are original productions while the other 4 being remixes. The remixes come from Bok Bok, Hostage, Noise Floor Crew and Sonido Del Principe. My favorite being the Bok Bok remix of course. Pick up this must-have release from Beatport, iTunes, or Juno right now!
I randomly heard of Drexciya from one of the ustream’s that Bok Bok was doing, I think he played “Under Sea Disturbances” and I was instantly hooked. I did some Beatporting and here we are, with some hot tracks fresh from 1999 and 2002. Oh, also, if you haven’t tuned into the ustream’s that Bok, L-Vis, Kingdom and Dubbel Dutch do… YOU NEED TO.
Wanna hear a mix from a dude who’s going to own it this year? Ok.

Now that 2009 is officially over and done, we can get excited about all the new music producers stepping up to the plate to make 2010 start off with a bang. Much like Bok Bok and L-vis 1990 in 2009, you couldn’t escape hearing the buzz about these two. Aside from producing and DJing, the two also started a pretty rowdy party called Night Slugs, which has now evolved into a label.
The first release on the Nightslugs record label is from Mosca. If you’re a geek like Beats or I, than you’ve probably heard Mosca through Kingdom, Bok Bok, or Dubbel Dutch on one of their ustream sets. If you’re unfamiliar with Mosca, then this EP will be a great introduction, as he’s everything you’d hope for in a producer. Blending quirky deep techno sounds with world house vibes and tons of bass. This is “grown ‘n sexy” club music far removed from the annoying screechy sounds of blog house, but with the same inventive energy. Not only are the original tracks fantastic but the Nightslugs sprung for some heavy duty remixers like Roska, Greena and Julio Bashmore.
The EP will be released to every digital music retailer (iTunes, Juno, Beatport, Boomkat, etc.) as well as have a very limited number of vinyl copies pressed. Keep an eye out for Night Slugs releases through-out the year because they plan on releasing EPs for Kingdom, Greena, Jam City, Girl Unit and Egyptrixx.
