I got some easy listening tunes from Young Empires this past weekend and I think they’re the perfect start to the last leg of Summer. They sound like a Cut Copy meets The Fashion with a dash of Kid Color’s plucking bass lines, and I think we can all agree that that’s a winning combination. Check out their demo’s along with a remix Sunday Girl’s “Self Control.” If you like what you hear, and you’re in the area, I might recommend hitting up their live show at The Flowerpot (London) on August 3rd.
I’d really like to “get deep” in this write-up and express how these “chillwave” tunes are making me feel like reality is fake and how I’m not sure if this ice cream is real or not… But I’ll leave that garbage to Altered Zones. Instead, I just want to point out that if you’re into atmospheric tunage you should give Atlantic At Pacific and Under Alien Skies a listen.
Atlantic At Pacific is releasing his Weddings full-length via Alchemist Records on August 24th and Under Alien Skies are in the studio putting together their LP as well as working on a live performance for a string of upcoming shows. Enjoy.
I don’t need to get into how amazing Inception is, but I do feel like I need to share the 3rd trailer theme. Contrary to popular belief, the master behind said theme is not Hans Zimmer but a not so familiar producer by the name of Zack Hemsey. I couldn’t find this for sale anywhere or I would have posted a “buy” link up with the mp3. This is one of the most epic theme songs ever and it deserves to be purchased in the most legitimate of ways.
Once you hear this lower quality version you’ll (like me) most likely be fiending for a full-quality link (stream available here). Mr. Hemsey, please get it together and make this available for purchase everywhere. Sincerely, everyone.
As you probably know, the Swedish blogging superstars of Discobelle have recently branched out from the “blog-o-sphere” to form a record label that mirrors the quality and consistency of the content you can find in their posts. For the labels 5th release, they’ve truly called out the big guns.
Femme En Fourrure‘s Dirty Blonde Remixes EP features some heavy remixes by French Fries & Manaré, Marcus Price, Lazaro Casanova, Raziek, MYD and Madkids. The release also features an original track with Eero Johannes called “Banana.” Dig into Marcus Price‘s remix below, revisit his amazing collab with Carli on “Mat, Bira, Kvinnor, Weed (Kingdom Remix)” and get the rest of the “Dirty Blonde” remixes over at Juno.
Rusko just threw a handful of old tunes on Twitter and seeing as how the sendspace link will die in the next couple of minutes, I’m putting the ones I enjoyed here. So… Enjoy. Oh, and get them all here.
Well, Fort Awesome got a little nutty last night and lucky for me this Mock & Toof track was in my inbox this morning to wish me a “good day.” “Suppress Your Feelings” is a JAM off of Tuning Echos, a full-length release that came out earlier this year on Tiny Stick Records. It’s a low-key heater with a tone that I don’t really know how to describe. It’s odd and interesting and contagious.
If you’re looking for some party jams for this weekend, look no further, as Homework‘s new Fissa Tune EP has got you covered. “Fissa Tune” sports an addictive, flute-like instrument wailing about; maybe a clarinet, maybe an oboe, maybe something crazy that I don’t even know about. In any case, every track on this release has a catchy element to it and I recommend giving it a once over. Check it out via Exploited Records on Beatport now.
I know from first hand experience that Ghetto Division have been tearing up Chicago for a while now. I remember they held a house party at their studio loft a few years back and it was amazing… Until the cops showed up (which was a usual occurance at all of our parties.)
Anyway, I was just looking over this Do312 Lollapalooza Remix Contest and noticed that Ghetto Division was basically owning the leader board. The first round of voting is over and it looks like all of the GD members have made it into the semifinals. Check out the tunes that made that possible and wish them good luck when you see them. Goodluck, gents.
