I saw this video of Starscream’s 2009 BLIP performance on Vice’s Motherboard and figured I’d share it here. Jean Y. Kim, a 21-year-old studio art student at NYU, uses a Gameboy to produce some “mind blowing” visuals while the band throws down a fit of 8-bit glory.
Well, if you’re in Milwaukee tonight… Or within 50 miles, then I fully expect you to be at Rubbin’ & Bumpin’, The Glamour’s monthly event at The Miramar Theater. This month they’ll be showcasing the wonderful sounds of Chicago’s Black Holes and Codebreaker’s Steve Hawley. If you’re lucky, and I’m able to leave work early, you’ll also be seeing me there! So greet me with a “hello”, purchase me no less than 2 drinks and then we can be besties. Glamourshake commence.
Friday, February 19th @ The Miramar Theater: Black Holes The Glamour Steven Hawley

$3 PBR Tall Boys / $3 Tall Vodka Mixers
Well of course the new Anoraak is really good. The chillacious remix of Shy Child’s “Disconnected” feels like the perfect music to just space out to at the end of a 12 hour work day (it’s been a rough month.) On an unrelated note, writing about Anoraak right now just made me think of when I got the opportunity to play with him and College when they were here in Chicago. They were two of the nicest guys ever. Thanks for that gig, Black Holes.
Ireland is basically crushing it this year. First, Two Door Cinema Club take over my iPod and now And So I Watch You From Afar delightfully show up in my inbox. The best way to describe ASIWYFA’s sound is to say that they’re basically next door neighbors to Explosions In the Sky and right down the block from M83… If we were relating them by means of residential metaphors, that is.
Anyway, you can catch these guys in Toronto, New York, a few spots at SXSW and all over in the UK (see their Myspace for full listing.) If you’re unable to attend any of the tour, check out “The Voiceless”, a really solid number off of their self-titled, debut album from last year. Actually, check that tune out either way, I’m pretty sure you’ll love it.
And So I Watch You From Afar do America (and some Canada):
March 11th – The Hide Out , Queens St , Toronto ( part of CMW)
March 13th – Mercury Lounge , Manhattan
March 17th – Friends Bar , 6th St SXSW
March 21nd – Good Bye SXSW party
I feel like it’s finally appropriate to post up this Love Dub by Buckmaster, as I know many of you will be in search of boner jams this eve. Also, aside from this delightful remix, you should check out Buckmaster’s new mix for Bangers Ball. It’s pretty, dare I say… Bangin‘.
I randomly heard of Drexciya from one of the ustream’s that Bok Bok was doing, I think he played “Under Sea Disturbances” and I was instantly hooked. I did some Beatporting and here we are, with some hot tracks fresh from 1999 and 2002. Oh, also, if you haven’t tuned into the ustream’s that Bok, L-Vis, Kingdom and Dubbel Dutch do… YOU NEED TO.
These guys WOULD cover “Robot Rock.” JK, The Glamour are cool (sorry for not saying ‘hi’ to you guys the last [3] time[s] you were here). Anyway, the boys have a release coming out on Hervé’s Cheap Thrills label this week today on Beatport and you should pick it up.
I’m sitting here watching the Colts/ Jets game and I thought, “wouldn’t it be cool if I just picked a random song from my Serato and posted it?” I don’t know, is this cool or not?
Well, I guess Potty Mouth Music hasn’t lost it’s edge since moving to LA, as this Way Back EP from Hijack and Santiago & Bushido is making that quite apparent. And even though that fidget house is no longer the talk of our little scene, it makes me happy to see these guys still doing their own thing. Solid party tracks all around from PMM.
